Techniques class - Exploring Embossing folders

We explored what you can do with embossing folders. Most of the time we just use our embossing folders to emboss and then use it as a layer. It always looks good BUT I like to explore the possibilities of "What else can I come up with"

This is what we did...
We rubbed over the folder with Sahara Sand. Ran it through the Big Shot and then rolled a brayer that had been inked up with Early Espresso over the card.

Imagine the colour combinations, these are just a few I made up for my sample book. Inked the folder with Island Indigo and then one side I brayered with Soft Sky and the other with Early Espresso.

This sample I inked the folder with Pink Pirouette and then one side I brayered with Wisteria Wonder  and the other with Early Espresso.

Our second card, we used two embossing folders and embossed the lower part of the card in stripes, then we embossed the top of the card with a frame. The little tree picture was done by using the Festival of Trees stamp and doing some stamping off. To cover the join and any crease marks we used this lovely Cherry Cobbler Ribbon.

The last card turned out misty and soft. We inked the folder with Sahara Sand, ran it through the folder and then inked the folder again with Soft Sky and then carefully lined up the embossed card and ran it through again. I love this effect as you never know what it will look like until the last run through.

If you reverse the colours you get a different look as well. Soft Sky first then Sahara Sand.

Sahara Sand first then Soft Sky on this one, can you see the subtle differences?

There are so many different ways to use the embossing folder, too many to cover in one class. Here are a few more ideas to inspire you.
Ink up the folder with Pink Pirouette and then emboss. Rub Wisteria Wonder ink pad over the embossed wording.

This one is double embossing, a little tricky until you get the hang of it.

Why not try using the folder without running it through the Big Shot. The hexagon folder was ink up and then the card pressed on to it.

Lastly, although there are so many more ideas swimming around in my head, this one I rubbed over different coloured write markers, then use a sponge to blend them together.
