Our yearly Christmas Card Workshops are now over, the last one was up at Cooroy. It has been well attended at all events and we have managed to raise a lot of money for the Footprint Bereavement Program. I now have breathing space to show you all the projects we made and a few of the displays. However before I do that, I would like to explain what it is we are doing these events for.
When a baby dies, the parents and their families world is turned upside down. One of our team members world had done exactly that some years ago. She had lost three babies and I can only imagine how heartbreaking this was. One of our ladies suggested we should hold a fundraising event for the hospital where she had lost her babies in their honour. It allowed her babies' footprints to be preserved and presented in a nicer way. So that's where the team decided to start.
Each year since 2008 the annual Paper Angels Christmas Card Workshop takes place. These workshops raise funds to purchase and supply Footprint Cards to the Hospitals Bereavement Program. The Mater Mother's Bereavement Support Program is provided with the materials they would need to ensure footprints of those babies who don't make it home be made into special footprint cards along with name plaques, to allow families to honour and cherish their babies.
Teaching the staff how to stamp the names and footprints and share with the staff how important these footprints and name plaques are in helping grieving families heal.
Our Charity Christmas Card workshops raised money that allowed the Paper Angels to put together a box full of materials needed to complete the treasured footprint card for the grieving parents. We also needed to make sure that the hospital always has a supply on hand.
These annual events now raise funds to supply many more hospitals, with lovely backing cards and supplies for names and footprints. These hospitals are Mater Mothers, Redlands, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped by attending one of these days and buying raffle tickets. I hope you can see that by doing so you have made a difference in someones life.
Also a heartfelt thank you to all of the other Paper Angels that work tirelessly to put on these events or to take part in the assembling of these cards.
Each person received the Hearts come Home for Christmas in their goodie pack, along with all the projects ready to assemble.
Of course, these days give us a great opportunity to show off other samples, especially along the Christmas theme. These are our samples for inspiration from a few of the events.
